Chelsea Transfer News: Chelsea has identified the replacement of N’Golo Kante

Chelsea Transfer News: It has been stated that Romeo Lavia, a former midfielder for Manchester City, is Chelsea’s top choice to replace N’Golo Kante.

Chelsea and Kante have not settled on a contract extension until beyond June when Kante’s current deal runs out. It is unclear whether the 2018 FIFA World Cup victor will want to stay with the Stamford Bridge club, as reported by Football Insider (via Fichajes.net). Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are said to be interested in the free-agent Frenchman this summer.

Despite the lack of clarity around Kante’s future, the Blues have a player in mind who can fill in for Kante at Stamford Bridge. The aforementioned source claims that the West London club is interested in Southampton’s Lavia. They consider Lavia to be Enzo Fernandes’ perfect match.

The 19-year-old midfielder is one of the Premier League’s brightest young stars. The versatile midfielder/defender has played in 23 Premier League games so far this season, scoring once.

According to reports, City may re-sign midfielder Lavia for €40 million in 2024 under the terms of a provision in Lavia’s contract. To recruit the player this summer from Southampton, the Pensioners will likely have to spend more than that.

Multiple clubs, including Chelsea, have been linked to the Belgian international, including Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Liverpool. Lavia’s Saints’ contract will expire in 2027.

Chelsea acquired Kante from Leicester City in July of 2016, and he has since appeared in 266 games for the Blues across all competitions, contributing 13 goals and 15 assists.

On Friday night (April 21), Premier League leaders Arsenal were held to a 3-3 draw by Southampton. Gabriel Martinelli, Martin Odegaard, and Bukayo Saka scored for the home team, while Carlos Alcaraz, Theo Walcott, and Duje Caleta-Car scored for the visitors.
