Chuck Liddell Career

Chuck Liddell’s UFC career began in 1998 with a bout against Noe Hernandez. Chuck won his next fight as well, and despite a setback to Jeremy Horn, he established himself as one of the most exciting up and coming fighters in the UFC, defeating Kevin Randleman, Vitor Belfort, Tito Ortiz, and many more. Chuck received his first opportunity at the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship in 2002, when he faced Randy Couture.

Liddell lost that bout after the referee stopped Couture’s “ground and pound” onslaught. In 2003, he won the Pride Middleweight Grand Prix, defeating Alistair Overeem in the first round. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson finally beat him.

In 2005, Liddell was hired as a coach for the inaugural season of “The Ultimate Fighter.” He also battled Randy Couture for the light heavyweight belt that year. “The Iceman” knocked Couture out with a right hand this time, capturing the UFC Heavyweight Championship for the first time. He subsequently successfully defended his championship against Jeremy Horn, another fighter who had previously defeated him.

Couture attempted to reclaim the championship one final time in 2006, but Chuck Liddell knocked him out. Couture retired, and Liddell defended his championship against Renato “Babalu” Sobral and Tito Ortiz twice. However, in 2007, Rampage Jackson knocked Chuck Liddell out two minutes into the first round of a fight, leading him to lose his belt. Chuck then lost to Keith Jardine but rebounded with a win against Wanderlei Silva.
