With the adolescent having been granted a tour of Norwich City’s training facility, West Brom risk losing out on Motherwell’s Max Johnston to a Championship opponent.
Expecting Max Aarons to depart Carrow Road after a disappointing 2022/23 season (the last straw for this so-called “yo-yo club”), David Wagner will likely prioritize signing a new right-back this summer. Now, step forward, Max Johnston.
The youngster has made quite an impact up north with Motherwell and is a finalist for the Scottish Football Writers’ Young Player of the Year award. Johnston has scored two goals and sent out six assists in his first season, making him the next flying full-back to emerge from the Scottish Premiership following Kieran Tierney, Aaron Hickey, Calvin Ramsey, and Josh Doig.
According to the Scottish Sun, West Brom are considering making a move. When Johnston’s contract at Fir Park ends in July, he will be free to sign with any club he wants, including Fulham, Burnley, and Sporting Lisbon.
DETAILS: Will West Brom get Max Johnston?
But it seems like Norwich is in the lead. The teenager from Middlesbrough has reportedly been to Norwich’s Colney training facilities. This is according to the local Anglian magazine, The Pink ‘Un.
Furthermore, Fulham and Burnley may not be very appealing to Johnston since they may not be able to guarantee him first-team games. Both Conor Roberts and Kenny Tete have cemented their positions as the starting right-backs for their respective clubs, Turf Moor and Craven Cottage.
Norwich, like West Brom, had a terrible season and missed the playoffs. The Baggies are reportedly interested in acquiring striker Chiedozie Ogbene from Rotherham.
