Forrest Griffin Early Career
Griffin became a police officer for the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office in Augusta, Georgia, following his college graduation. During this period, he worked out at the Athens HardCore Gym. Griffin ultimately quit the law enforcement force to pursue a career as a mixed martial artist. He later faced Dan Severn, Travis Fulton, Jeremy Horn, Chael Sonnen, Jeff Monson, and Edson Paradeo.
Griffin rose to the national spotlight in 2005 as a contestant on the first season of Spike TV’s “The Ultimate Fighter.” He reached the finals of the UFC-produced mixed martial arts program, defeating Stephan Bonnar by unanimous decision. Griffin fought Bill Mahood at UFC 53 following his victory on “The Ultimate Fighter,” and he finally defeated him. At UFC 55, he defeated Elvis Sinosic via TKO. Griffin suffered his first professional defeat against Tito Ortiz at UFC 59. Griffin fought Stephan Bonnar again at UFC 62, winning again by unanimous decision. At UFC 66, he did not perform well, losing by TKO to Keith Jardine. Griffin returned the following year to defeat Hector Ramirez at UFC 72. At UFC 76, in his next bout, he defeated Mauricio Rua.
