Is Lutsharel Geertruida moving to Barcelona?

As Barcelona eagerly anticipate the upcoming summer transfer window, they find themselves confronted with a pressing issue in the right-back position.

The club currently lacks a dependable and established option for this role. Sergi Roberto’s contract extension was pursued with the hope that the seasoned veteran can continue for one more season. Additionally, Barcelona is relying on the versatility of Jules Kounde and Ronald Araujo to provide cover.

Various players have been linked with a move to Barça in the market, including Juan Foyth, Diogo Dalot, and Joao Cancelo. Most recently, there have been rumours of interest in Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui, although all of these potential targets are expected to come at a considerable price.

Hence, Barcelona has turned its attention to Lutsharel Geertruida, as reported by Gerard Romero. Geertruida, a 22-year-old right-back, currently plays for Feyenoord.

In recent years, Geertruida has experienced significant success at Feyenoord, accumulating nearly 150 competitive appearances for the club. Despite his speed, athleticism, and attacking prowess, he has remained somewhat under the radar. Notably, he has already netted 15 goals for Feyenoord.

Barcelona has taken notice of Geertruida’s rapid rise to prominence and is contemplating the possibility of integrating him into the first team for the upcoming season. The Dutchman’s speed and athleticism present an intriguing option for coach Xavi Hernandez, providing a more dynamic alternative to Roberto, Araujo, and Kounde.

However, enticing Geertruida away from Feyenoord might prove challenging. The player is under contract with the Dutch club until 2025, implying that Barcelona would need to negotiate a transfer fee to secure his services.

In the weeks to come, we can anticipate more information regarding Barcelona’s pursuit of Geertruida, as the club shifts its focus to team-building following their league title triumph.
