Jyothi Yarraji Biography: Jyothi Yarraji was born on 18th August 1999 in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. As of 2024, she is 25 years old. She completed her schooling from the Port High School in Visakhapatnam old city. She completed her education in a college affiliated to Acharya Nagarjuna University. She joined the Sports Authority of India hostel in Hyderabad and she did her training for two years under the coach of Olympian N Ramesh who is a Dronacharya award receiver.

She shifted to Gunto, where she joined the Centre of Excellence. Since 2019, he has been training under British coach James Hillwer at the Reliance Athletics High Performance Centre in Bhubaneswar.

  • Jyothi Yarraji came into the spotlight when she won a silver medal in the 100m hurdles in the Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou, China.
  • Sadly, she got disqualified for a false start along with a Chinese athlete but she was allowed to take the start.
  • In the end after review, the Chinese athlete was disqualified and the Indian was promoted to the silver medal.
  • She broke the official national record for indoor 60 metre hurdles five times in 2023, after winning the silver medal in the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships at Astana in Kazakhstan in 2013.
  • She also represented India at the Commonwealth Games in 2022 in the 100-meter hurdles.
  • She also took part in the Indian Women’s 4 x 100 meters relay team that came 5th in the finals.
  • She won the gold medal in both 100 metres and 100 metres hurdles at the 2022 edition of India National Games.
  • In 2022, she became the first Indian woman hurdler to clock below 13 seconds becoming the second best Asian in the 100-meter women’s hurdles in the year and 11th best Asian ever.

Jyothi Yarraji officially represented India in the 2024 Summer Olympics. She represented her nation in the women’s 100m hurdles event at the tournament. Unfortunately, she failed to advance to the semi-final of the event after she finished fourth in her repechage round heat at the competition on Thursday.

She clocked 13.17s in Heat 1 of the repechage round of the track athletics event. Only the top two athletes from each heat made it to the semi-finals. Entirely, she finished at the 35th position in the field of 40 hurdles on her Olympic debut.
