Kenny Florian Biography: Kenny Florian was born on May 26, 1976, in Los Angeles County, California. Florian is one of six children born to Peruvian parents Agustin, a thoracic surgeon, & Ines Florian; however, none of his grandparents are Peruvian, and his maternal grandparents include Spanish, Italian, German, French, and Armenian. Florian was born in Westwood, Massachusetts, & grew up in nearby Dover, Massachusetts, where he excelled as a Dover-Sherborn Regional High School soccer player. He went to Boston College and was a member of the varsity soccer squad (NCAA Division 1). He is also a dual citizen of the United States and Peru.

After graduation, he became interested in mixed martial arts. He obtained a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from Prof. Roberto Maia of Boston Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Florian was a translator for a few years before enrolling in law school, rewriting financial paperwork into several foreign languages. On the other hand, a near-death incident in Brazil caused him to pursue his passion for mixed martial arts instead.

Kenny Florian is of Spanish, Italian, German, French, and Armenian descent and is a dual citizen of the United States and Peru. He speaks Spanish well. Kenny and his brother, Keith, both earned second-degree black belts from Prof. Roberto Maia, and they own and run the Florian Martial Arts Center in Brookline, Massachusetts, which specializes in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, muay thai, wrestling, and mixed martial arts.

Kenny Florian’s meticulous game planning and articulate fight analyses created his reputation as a fighter with an aptitude for defeating opponents. Twelve of the fourteen victories in a boxer’s time resulted from stoppages. Florian is one of the few competitors in UFC history to have competed in all four weight classes: Middleweight, Welterweight, Lightweight, and Featherweight.

In the first season of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality program, Kenny Florian defeated Chris Leben but ultimately fell to Diego Sanchez in the finale. At UFC 64: Unstoppable, Florian challenged Sean Sherk for the UFC Lightweight title but was decisively defeated. At UFC 101’s Main Event, Florian faced B.J. Penn for a second chance at the championship.

Kenny Florian co-hosted “MMA Live” for ESPN with Franklin McNeil and “UFC Tonight” on FS1 with Michael Bisping, in addition to writing for “FIGHT!” MMA magazine. He substituted for Joe Rogan as a color commentator for UFC 83, UFC 134, & UFC Fight Night 19. Additionally, he served as the color commentator for WEC 41, WEC 49, and the TUF 11 Finale for Frank Mir. In 2005, Florian was announced as the color commentator for ABC’s “BattleBots” relaunch. Kenny Florian inked a contract with the Professional Fighters League to serve as a commentator in 2021.
