Paris Saint Germain star Kylian Mbappe recently heaped praises on former manager Thomas Tuchel, after the german gaffer managed to win the Champions League with his new side Chelsea FC, within just just 6 months of being appointed at Stamford bridge.
What Kylian Mbappe said about Thomas Tuchel
In a recent interview, Mbappe told BILD: “He’s fantastic tactically.
“He knows exactly how opponents will behave and can predict matches very accurately.
“And we must also take this into account: he is still a very young coach. He can become one of the best coaches of the future. He proved it no sooner than with his victory in the Champions League.”
Thomas Tuchel had had an amazing record at PSG during his reign at the Parisian club. He managed to break their Champions League curse to take them to the finals of the biggest club level competition of Europe in the 2019-2020 season. Although PSG lost the finals against Bayern Munich, reaching the finals was a pretty big achievement in itself as it was the first UCL final in the club’s history.
Thomas Tuchel’s record at PSG
However, Tuchel’s dream run at Paris did not last long and in a surprising turn of events, the german coach was sacked the next season after PSG started to give away points in the Ligue one and dropped down to the 3rd place in the league table.
During his reign at PSG, Thomas Tuchel won them two Ligue 1s, one french cup, one french league cup and two french super cups.
Within one month of being sacked from PSG, the german coach was appointed by Chelsea, who were in dire need of a manager after sacking Frank Lampard mid-season- a move that changed his fate completely.
Thomas Tuchel’s spell at the North London club, has been a story of rejuvenation for both the parties. Chelsea found their long lost glory days back, and Tuchel showed his calibre proving all his critics wrong.
How Tuchel transformed Chelsea
He completely transformed the blues from the very first game in charge. Chelsea played 30 matches under the supervision of head coach Thomas Tuchel this season across all the competitions, out of which they lost just five, which is a significant improvement from their previous coach Frank Lampard.
Above all, he brought the Champions League back to Stamford bridge after a wait of 9 long years, winning an instant contract extension in the process.
Thomas Tuchel’s journey of transforming Chelsea from a mid-tier team to a European powerhouse, has been inspiring so far, and it does not look like he has any plans to stop here.
The German has big plans for the club
The german coach met Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich for the first time after winning the Champions League. While talking about their conversation on the pitch, Tuchel made it very clear that he has big plans for the Londoners.
‘I’m not quite sure if I can even speak out this, I’m not even 100 per cent sure but maybe I already have a new contract with that win. My manager said something but I do not know, so let’s check this first,’ Tuchel said after Chelsea’s win over Manchester City.
I spoke to the owner right now on the pitch. I think it was the best moment for the first meeting, or the worst because from now on it can only get worse!
‘We will speak tomorrow, we will speak later. I’m looking forward to this, I can assure him I will stay hungry, that I want the next title and I feel absolutely happy. I feel as a part of a really ambitious club, a strong part of a strong group that suits my belief and my passion about football at the moment perfectly.
‘So my desire is to go for more victories, my desire is to grow as a coach, my desire is to push the group on the first day of the next season to the limit.
