Latest Liverpool News: In Liverpool’s 4-3 Premier League victory against Tottenham Hotspur, defender Trent Alexander-Arnold established a new record by recording an assist.
The fullback’s beautiful cross to the back post set up Curtis Jones for the opening goal, his fifth assist in as many games. This is the first time in his career that Alexander-Arnold has given an assist in five consecutive games, but he did it in 2019 as well. Amazingly, for a right back, he is the only player in Premier League history to do this.
Over the course of two seasons four years ago, Alexander-Arnold provided an assist in games against Cardiff City, Huddersfield Town, Newcastle United twice, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Norwich City.
He did it again in April 2023, although this time it was against Arsenal, Leeds United (2), Nottingham Forest, West Ham United, and Tottenham Hotspur—all in the same month of the same season.
The six assists are the most by any player in the Premier League in a single month since December 2011, when Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia had seven assists.
Latest Liverpool News: In Liverpool’s 4-3 Premier League victory against Tottenham Hotspur, defender Trent Alexander-Arnold established a new record
Alexander-Arnold, who had a slow start to the season, has since sprung into life thanks in large part to his new midfield hybrid position, which enables him to join Liverpool’s assault to devastating effect.
The 24-year-old seems to have returned to form, having gone from providing just two assists in the previous 29 games to providing six in the past five as the Reds make one last push for European qualifying.
On Sunday, April 30, Liverpool jumped to fifth place in the Premier League after defeating Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 in a thrilling match.
The Reds got out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first 15 minutes, but the Spurs battled back to tie the game in the 93rd minute. Despite Richarlison’s equalizer, Liverpool came out on top thanks to Diogo Jota’s game-winning goal just seconds later.
With a game in hand, Jurgen Klopp’s team is two points ahead of Spurs and in a position to clinch a Europa League berth before the season’s end.
With Manchester United just seven points ahead, a top-four finish is still possible. To finish in the top four, Liverpool needs the Red Devils to completely collapse in their next six games, given they have a game in hand.
