Liverpool Transfer News: The Reds are preparing a €50M bid for Aston Villa star

Liverpool has “very real” interest in signing the Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn. The Reds are searching for a midfielder ever since Gini Wijnaldum left the club for free in June. The asking price of the 26-year-old midfielder is set at 50M euros. The Anfield club are unlikely to pay that sort of cash for him despite the boss being a huge fan of the scot.

According to The Athletic, the English giants have been put off by the hefty transfer fee and will want it to drop before they attempt to sign him.

However, reports suggest that the transfer news is very legit and both the clubs are negotiating the deal. The main concern for the Merseysiders is the release clause of the midfielder. In order to finance the deal, Liverpool will need to make a few sales first.
Reports from The Athletic suggest that Villa and Liverpool correspondents appears to suggest that a transfer bid from Liverpool is far from likely despite the claimed “very real” interest.

It’s said that “the Liverpool interest may grow stronger in time,” suggesting that a move isn’t likely any time soon.

Some journalists have claimed there are no plans to replace Wijnaldum, it would seem extremely strange not to replace a player who featured in 75 of the Reds last 76 Premier League games. Klopp previously described the 26-year-old midfielder as a “super player” and it’s claimed that the Liverpool boss has been impressed with how he has adapted to life in the Premier League in the last two seasons.

Scotland had an early exit in the Euros losing to Czech Republic & Croatia. McGinn has played in every minute for Scotland in the Euros. The midfielder has been excellent for Villa in the past two seasons in the Premier League. The midfielder has scored 12 goals in 105 appearances for the club. McGinn was also a part of Villa’s 7-2 win against the Merseysiders last season. McGinn was featured in Villa’s 37 out of 38 league games last season in which he scored 3 goals for his side.

McGinn first signed a four-year deal with Aston Villa in 2018. The 26-year-old signed a new 5-year deal with Aston Villa in December 2020. This puts Villa in a great place as far as negotiations are concerned.

Scotland did not have a good time in the Euros losing 2 out of 3 matches. Scotland surely caught the eye of many when they had a goalless draw against England on Saturday. But their exit was surely confirmed after losing to Croatia on Wednesday.
While speaking to the press about Andy Robertson’s role in the Scottish national team in September 2019, Klopp said:

“As a left-back, you can’t win a game alone. It’s just not possible. He doesn’t have to though because you have other good guys – John McGinn, what a super player he is, Robert Snodgrass, a wonderful player, Scott McTominay has great potential.”
A number of midfielders have been linked to Anfield in recent months which includes the likes of Youri Tielemans, Yves Bissouma, Florian Neuhaus. But none of the deals have been confirmed yet.
