Manchester United’s €20M bid for Kieran Trippier rejected by Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid have rejected the opening bid from Manchester United for England defender Kieran Trippier. The Laliga winners are asking for an excess of 20M euros for 30-year-old. Diego Simeone has no intention to sell the defender. This might be the reason why Atletico Madrid are pricing him out so that the red devils are unable to secure his services.

Mundo Deportivo claim the English media have reported that Manchester United have a second time, putting in a €20m offer which is far from the La Liga giant’s €40m asking price.

Kieran Trippier joined Atletico Madrid for €20M from Spurs two years ago. He has featured in every league game since then. He has been the key man for Simeone in the last two seasons and also helped him win the title this year. Kieran Trippier was also featured in the Laliga team of the year. He has a total of 68 appearances for the club at Wanda Metropolitan. Kieran Trippier is a right back by choice but he played as a left back for England against Croatia in the Euros. He was also described as a “Defensive animal” by Gareth Southgate recently.

Kieran Trippier is a United fan since childhood and playing for Red devils has always been his dream. He grew up near Manchester. Trippier is keen to come to Old Trafford and it has been seen that the 30-year-old was searching for house near the city lately. He wants to come closer to his family and friends but he is now worried that Atletico Madrid might not let that happen. Kieran Trippier fears that Atletico Madrid will price him out of a dream move to Manchester United this summer.

Earlier this month Kieran Trippier said that he is fully focused for the Euros and turned down the rumours of joining United.

“I’m enjoying myself so much out there “, the full-back told reporters.”

“I’m just fully focused on doing the best I can for my club”.

Rio Ferdinand however thinks that Kieran Trippier does not fit into the United squad.

“I don’t think they’d buy someone to come in and play, I think whoever’s coming in there is going to be playing backup”, the ex-United and England defender.

“They spent £50m on Wan-Bissaka, not to be a backup or No.2”.

“He wouldn’t be my choice if I’m honest, but I see the qualities he has”.

“But Trippier definitely wouldn’t be my choice in terms of the profile of player that I’d be bringing in to play as a No.2 right-back”.

It looks like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to add more defensive options to his team and looks to increase the depth of the squad. Keiran Tripper will provide strong competition to Aaron Wan Bissaka. The former crystal palace player was featured in a number of games this season as Brandon Williams failed to impress. According to The Times, Solskjaer feels Wan-Bissaka’s positioning needs improving and his crossing isn’t as good as Trippier’s.

Tom Heaton has his medicals done today and is set to join United until June 2023. The deal will be confirmed soon. The 35-year-old might be the second-choice goalkeeper for the red devils with David De Gea likely to leave this summer to join his boyhood club Atletico Madrid. Manchester United have also made an offer of 67M for Dortmund player Jadon Sancho. The club rejected the offer and has set the price tag at 95M.
