On Saturday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by 77 runs, clinching a berth in the IPL 2023 Playoffs. MS Dhoni’s squad joined the reigning champion Gujarat Titans as the second team to qualify for the playoffs. With the victory, CSK also maintained their record as the team with the most playoff appearances.
CSK has 17 points, which should be enough to maintain its position as the second-best team. However, CSK must be vigilant in case Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) beat Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) later in the day and take over second place. Then, if both LSG and CSK have 17 points, the team with the better Net Run Rate (NRR) would move up to the second place.
MS Dhoni finally reacts after Chennai Super Kings qualify for the IPL 2023 playoffs
If LSG beats KKR by 97 runs or more, they will pass CSK and move into second place. On Tuesday, Qualifier 1 will be played in Chennai between the top two teams (GT and CSK/LSG). On Wednesday, the third and fourth-place teams will play in the Eliminator match. Ahmedabad will host both the Final on May 28 and the Qualifier 2 match on May 26.
At the post-match presentation, MS Dhoni said: “We are not worried about individual performance, we look only at team performance. Credit to the players, and management for the success of this team.”
