Shafali Verma, India’s flashy opening batter, announced on Instagram on May 13 that she had aced the class XII CBSE board test. The 19-year-old said she is thrilled with the outcome but will now devote herself solely to cricket.
The Haryana-born cricketer has played 79 international matches for India since making her debut in 2019. In addition to leading the Delhi Capitals to the WPL finals, Shafali made history earlier this year by becoming the first female captain to win the Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup.
At the age of 15, Shafali made her debut for India in an international match against South Africa. The Indian cricket team always saw her as one of their future stars, and so far she hasn’t disappointed. At a strike rate of 132.11, she has scored 1333 runs in 21 T20Is and 531 runs in 21 ODIs.

Shafali made her Test debut in 2021 against England and has since played two more matches, accumulating 242 runs at an average of 62.05. Meanwhile, the opener scored 252 runs in nine WPL matches, enough for second place on her team’s all-time run list.
Shafali will be looking to make a better return next season and eventually capture the famous trophy after Delhi fell short in the finals in the first edition.
“2023 mei ek aur bohot special 80+ smash kiya, but iss baar 12th boards mei! I am very happy with my results and can’t wait to give my all to my favourite subject – cricket!” – read her caption on an Instagram post.
