Tottenham Transfer News: Spurs swapping Erik Lamela plus cash for Sevilla’s Bryan Gil

Tottenham are close to finalising a swap deal with Sevilla that will see them sign winger Bryan Gil and Erik Lamela move to Spain. Tottenham’s new director of football, Fabio Paratici, is a big admirer of the 20-year-old Gil. A few weeks ago, there were rumours speculating that the Argentine might leave for Italy to join Fiorentina.

According to Sky Sports Italia, Spurs will also have to pay £21.6m to the Laliga giants. Bryan Gil spent the 2020/21 season on loan at Eibar, where he scored four goals and registered three assists as the club were relegated from La Liga. He featured 29 times but failed to prevent their relegation as they finished rock bottom of LaLiga and were sent down to the second tier. He also spent time on loan with Leganes after coming through the youth system at Sevilla, for whom he has played 21 times.

Bryan Gil made his debut in 2019 aged just 17 and became the first child of the 21st century to score in the Spanish top division after netting against Rayo Vallecano in the same season. He helped his country reach the semi-finals of the Under-21 Euros earlier this summer and is now part of Spain’s Olympic squad in Tokyo. Bryan Gill became the first-ever Leganes player to win a Spain call up but didn’t make the final squad for Euro 2020. Sevilla finished fourth in LaLiga last season.

Lamela is set to sign a three-year contract with the Spanish side, bringing an end his eight-year spell with Spurs. Lamela has played over 250 times for Spurs since arriving from Roma, although he has often struggled with injuries. The Argentina international contributed four goals and one assist in 35 games for Spurs last season.

The Premier League club are also on the verge of completing a deal to sign the Atalanta goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini on an initial loan and an option to buy for €15m. The goalkeeper spent two years at the Manchester United academy between 2012 and 2014 before joining Verona and then Aston Villa, has been a member of the Italian national team setup for a number of years and is considered one of the best goalkeepers in Serie A.

Spurs have held talks with Atalanta over a move for defender Cristian Romero after cooling their interest in Lyon’s Joachim Andersen, who impressed on loan at Fulham last season. Talks are also continuing over a deal for Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu. Lamela is one of a number of players Spurs are willing to move on this summer. Spurs are also open to offers for the likes of Serge Aurier, Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier.
