The youngster has been praised by Klopp as someone the “football world can be really excited” about after his eye-catching performances playing in a deeper midfield role which has also seen England U21 Pondering a potential call-up for the 18-year-old. Elliott played in the kind of role at the tip of Liverpool’s midfield where Xherdan Shaqiri would often be deployed in his sporadic performances. On top of that, Elliott is also capable of playing on the wing and deputising for the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané if necessary. But it’s not just Elliott who will be aided by the void left behind by Shaqiri.

16-year-old Kaide Gordon has also caught the eye in pre-season and with spaces freeing up in Klopp’s first team squad the club’s academy winger could see more playing time in the first team as a result. Shaqiri was always a player who featured in the cup and European competitions. Gordon has shown in pre-season he will not look out of place amongst senior players. Without Shaqiri, Gordon may also get a chance to shine and get some crucial minutes and experience in the club’s first team.
