La Liga Barcelona has been through a tough phase just at the end of the last campaign. The club finished the season trophyless behind their bitter rivals Real Madrid in La Liga and was thrashed 8-2 y Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals. Following the disarray, players in the dressing room did not like the vibe at Camp Nou. Their captain and six-time Balon D’or winner Lionel Messi wanted to leave the club for good during the transfer break.
A failed transfer break at Barcelona
The board received heavy criticism for its antics to hold on to Leo and block every possible move. President Josep Maria Bartomeu was under constant fire as he did not resign and continued his tenure. It seemed he tried to make some changes but eventually it was revealed as blunders. Barcelona failed to do considerable business in the current transfer window due to a lack of funds.

The coronavirus pandemic is not the only reason for the economic crisis in Barcelona. Bartomeu sanctioned the big-money signings like Ousmane Dembele, Philippe Coutinho, and Antoine Griezmann. All of them failed to make their mark for the Blaugrana. Dembele has been inconsistent due to injuries and so missed most of the games. Griezmann is struggling to settle down and Coutinho needed a loan to Bayern Munich to recapture his form.
Moix: The Barcelona board may give up
This season Barcelona did a swap deal with Juventus which included Miralem Pjanic and Arthur Melo. The club vice-president, Jordi Moix, tried to make it clear the deal was similar to the Cillesen-Neto deal back in 2019. Barcelona agreed to the swap deal as they had to balance the books and the negotiation was approved of the technical staff. Moix also talked about the failed endeavors during the current transfer window.
There was wholesome speculation regarding the return of former La Masia youth prospect Eric Garcia from Manchester City. The deal did not go as planned with City adamant to stick with their price-tag. Moix said that it was more than what Barcelona planned to offer for the 19-year-old because his contract was about to expire in a year. As he explained the current situation of the club, Moix hinted at something Bartomeu edged out since the Messi transfer saga. It seems the board may reconsider their decision and retire for good. Moix says they have not ruled out any possibility, according to RAC1.
