Ansu Fati missed out on the Man of the Match vs Villarreal due to this reason.

Ansu Fati missed out on the Man of the Match after a fine display vs Villarreal !

Barcelona seems to have overcome the previous struggles and the unrest in the dressing room. The criticism on the club was harsh but it seems they are back on track now. The new manager Ronald Koeman is taking important decisions to make the club great again. Barca has not participated actively during the current transfer window.

This is mainly due to the lack of funds and the cause of the coronavirus pandemic. Economic instability has hit the club hard. Koeman tried to balance the books and save almost €52 million. However, Barcelona needed to let go of the club veterans who took up the majority of the salaries. Luis Suarez, Ivan Rakitic, and Arturo Vidal all left the club for cheap.

Barcelona is currently working on a model to enrich its squad depth with youth talent. La Masia has failed to provide a subsequent source of youngsters in the past few years. Hence, the Catalan club went forward to sign players from other clubs. Promising starlets Francisco Trincao and Pedri arrived ahead of the pre-season. They are already working to bring in 19-year-old Ajax right back Sergino Dest.

However, there is one La Masia graduate who seems to have a bright future ahead of him. Ansu Fati has been exceptional for Barcelona. He had his breakthrough season last term with 25 appearances in all competitions. The 17-year-old became the youngest player to score for Barcelona and ended the season with 9 goals.

The current season is no different with the form he kickstarted with. Yesterday, Ronald Koeman’s Barcelona played their first competitive match of the season. They thrashed Villareadl 4-0 in their opening La Liga match at Camp Nou. Fati scored a brace to show how special he can be. He showed constant attacking prowess with his positions in the opponent’s box. Despite his spectacular display, he was not awarded the man of the match award, as per Republic. The reason is also a ridiculous one.

Apparently, the Man of the Match award is sponsored by Budweiser. The beer company acknowledges the youngster is not old enough to drink and hence Jordi Alba won the award instead. The notion is so not efficient as if Ansu Fati had to chug beers to accept the award. Fans pointed out the Budweiser is nothing but glorified water but it does not change the fact. Maybe Ansu Fati will be able to pick up some more when he is able to drink.
