Barcelona could not achieve all of its targets during the summer transfer window due to its economic weakness. The coronavirus pandemic has left huge losses behind as Barca is still recovering and balancing the books gradually. Ronald Koeman still managed to sign some players in the break following sales of surplus requirements. The new Barca boss plotted a double swoop on the deadline but it required Ousmane Dembele to accept his loan spell to Premier League.
Dembele’s failed move to United: a curse for Barcelona
However, it did not as planned with Dembele staying at the club after Manchester United did not reach an agreement with Barca. La Liga rejected Memphis Depay to move from Lyon to the Blaugrana even though the fees were agreed between both the clubs. Koeman almost signed Eric Garcia but backed off as Manchester City did not reduce their asking price. The end of the transfer window was tragic for Barcelona.

Only if Dembele moved to join the Red Devils in the English top-flight football, Barca would have obtained a first-team quality striker like Depay. Nevertheless, Koeman is content with the players and his current squad as he expresses they do not need a proper striker to feature for Barcelona. But Dembele is not in the plans of the Dutchman who is not happy with the disciplinary records of the Frenchman.
Barcelona to give Dembele another chance but on their terms
The 105 million euros signing sat out for most of his games at Barca due to injuries and lack of physical fitness. Koeman also noticed his lacklustre performance on the opening game for Barcelona against Villareal. Dembele did not capitalize on the opportunity he was given by the gaffer. Hence, Barcelona is looking forward to providing an ultimatum to Dembele and his representatives regarding a new contract solely on their terms which are non-negotiable. If the 23-year-old disagrees with any clause, he will be offered to any possible suitor in the winter transfer window, as per SPORT.
Ousmane Dembele made nothing but a big mistake turning down the loan move to United. However, he is working hard to make a place in the team and prove himself to Ronald Koeman. The manager may give him some more chances to shine but Dembele must perform well to hold on to his form. Barcelona is up against Getafe in La Liga at the end of the International break.
