Barcelona eliminate 80 million euros of their wage bill

Barcelona did not have a fruitful transfer window due to a lack of funding from the club. The La Liga giants suffered huge losses as the coronavirus pandemic left them financially weak. There were no TV rights as well as no ticket sales for the past few months. The current scenario has had an adverse effect on the Barcelona squad. Ronald Koeman could not pursue his transfer targets on the shortlist.

Short on funds: Barcelona facing economic instability

The Dutchman needed to balance the books first before making any move during the transfer break. SPORT reports that Barcelona has successfully saved about 80 million from their current wage bills. Koeman sorted out his squad as he noticed his players’ performances in the pre-season. The Blaugrana let go of some important players who took up high salaries. Veteran midfielders Ivan Rakitic and Arturo Vidal move to Sevilla and Inter Milan respectively.
