Chelsea reach an agreement with Jules Kounde on personal terms: The blues set to offer a swap deal to Sevilla

Chelsea are in talks with Sevilla over signing the 22-year-old French Defender- Jules Kounde. Kounde arrived in Sevilla two years ago and is currently one of the finest talents in Europe. The French international helped Sevilla qualify for the Champions League last season and was part of France’s Euro 2020 squad this summer.

According to Sky Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano: “Jules Koundé has an agreement ready on personal terms with Chelsea.

“Contract until 2026 won’t be a problem to be signed – as Koundé is open to accept.

“Chelsea and Sevilla are in advanced talks to reach an agreement on payment/deal structure.”

According to SunSport, Manchester United were also interested in signing Jules Kounde despite agreeing a deal with Raphael Varane.

Tottenham also tried to sign the Frenchman but the player wants Champions League football next season.

Jules Kounde joined Sevilla from Bordeaux in 2019 and has played 88 times in two seasons for the LaLiga club. He still has three years left on his contract, but is said to be keen to move to Stamford Bridge to play Champions League football. The 22-year-old has a release clause of £68.4m and is open to a move to England as he is keen to play in the Champions League next season. However, Chelsea are not ready to pay such a big amount. Sevilla are in financial difficulties handing Chelsea an advantage during negotiations.

Thomas Tuchel has already raised funds by allowing two centre-backs to leave this summer, having sold Fikayo Tomori to Milan for £30m and Marc Guéhi to Crystal Palace in a deal that could reach up to £20m. Tuchel already has Antonio Rudiger, Thiago Silva, Andreas Christensen to line-up at the back three with Captain Cezar Azpilicueta and Reece James at the right. Rudiger and Christensen both have a year left in their contract at the club.

According to Julien Maynard of Telefoot, Chelsea’s defender Kurt Zouma is a potential counterpart to Jules Koundé’s transfer to Sevilla, has yet to hold talks with either club involved in the deal.

RMC Sport reports that Koundé has already spoken with Chelsea’s manager Thomas Tuchel over the German coach’s plans for the defender, as the Blues look be decisively ahead in the race for his signature.

Transfer expert Gianluigi Di Marzio claims that the Blues are now set to complete a swap deal involving Kurt Zouma.

Di Marzio also claims the deal will see Chelsea pay around £30m for Jules Kounde with Kurt Zouma going the other way.

Kounde currently earns £73,000-a-week in La Liga and he should be in line for a wage increase if he completes a move to Stamford Bridge this summer. Kounde is expected to sign a five-year deal with the Blues.

Chelsea are also in search for a new no.9 and have targeted Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandoski, Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku. Chelsea have also allowed Oliver Giroud to leave for AC Milan this summer and are also planning to offload Tammy Abraham.
