Manchester United’s interest in Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves is ‘genuine’

Manchester United are leading the race to sign Ruben Neves from Wolves this summer. The Portuguese midfielder has been heavily linked with Arsenal in recent weeks as Gunner’s boss Mikel Arteta eyes a replacement for Granit Xhaka. Arsenal are desperately in search of a midfielder after rumours speculated the exit of Xhaka to Roma this summer. The Wolves midfielder has three years left in his contract at Molineux Stadium. The player is currently in holiday after the EUROS but reports claim that the 24-year-old will be back soon for pre-season training.

According to TALKSPORT’s, United are in position to sign Neves, who is a Portugal teammate to Old Trafford stars Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot.

“Ruben Neves is another player Mikel Arteta has been monitoring very closely, but the trail seems to have gone cold there over a move to Arsenal,” Alex Crook told Talksport host Jim White.

“Wolves have their price tag, £35m, and they’re willing to do business to try and generate some funds for their new manager Bruno Lage.

“Liverpool were mentioned to me, but there’s definite interest from Manchester United.
“Ruben Neves is a Portuguese teammate of Bruno Fernandes and he is actively trying to push Neves towards Old Trafford.

“They do want another midfielder regardless of Paul Pogba’s future at the club.”

The Gunners approached Wolves with their interest last month and have reportedly been told the 24-year-old is available for a fee of around £35m. Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard each returned to Real this summer after their loans at Arsenal came to an end. According to talkSPORT, United have now entered the picture and are at ‘the head of the queue’ for his signature. Recent reports have suggested Arsenal remain in ‘constant’ dialogue with Neves’ agent Jorge Mendes.

Ruben Neves signed for Wolves in 2017 from Porto for £15.8m and led them to Premier League promotion in his debut season. Neves has three years left in his contract at Molineux but Wolves stand to more than double their £15.8m investment if the alleged price-tag proves accurate.

Ruben Neves could be a possible replacement for Paul Pogba, who has less than a year left on his Manchester United contract. The France midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, who could land him for just £43m this summer. The Gunners have completed the signing of Belgian star Albert Sambi Lokonga. The club are also eager to bring in a more experienced option with Granit Xhaka still hoping to compete a move away from London to join Jose Mourinho’s Roma.
