Portugal vs Germany Player ratings: Germany’s Robin Gosens shines as Portugal players fail to impress

Here are the player ratings of the Portugal vs Germany match:

Portugal Player ratings

Rui Patricio – 5/10
The Portuguese goalkeeper made a couple of good saves tonight and had it not been for him, the Selecao would’ve conceded many more goals. But he also leaked 4 goals (which were not his faults though) and a rating of 5 is the max we can give him.

Diogo Jota – 6.5/10
The Portuguese left winger made some nerve wracking runs down the left flank throughout the entirety of the match and it was he who provided Cristiano Ronaldo with the assist from at the 15th minute mark. The Liverpool FC winger showed some commendable improvements from his performance in the last match against Hungary and falls in the higher rated players of Portugal in tonight’s match.

Ruben Dias – 4/10
The Manchester City Defender started off well in the first when he looked rock solid in the defence, comfortably dealing with the crosses that the Germans were throwing in at Portugal’s defense constantly. But when the Germans finally broke the deadlock in the 35th minute, it was through his own goal, and there was no going back for Germany from there. They simply manhandled the Portuguese defense, and with it, Ruben Dias.

Pepe – 7/10
Probably the best performance in Portugal’s defense tonight, the 39 year old proved his worth in the chances that he got. Although the 38 year old was quite uncharacteristically falling prey to Kai Havertz pushed and shoulder tackles and at one moment looked like he won’t be able to continue, he did an exceptional job, given his age.

Nelson Semedo – 3/10
The Right Back was simply invisible for 90 minutes and Germany’s Robin Gosens simply toyed with the Wolves defender in the left flank. His poor display made it very difficult for Portugal to operate from the right. Wonder how he was not subbed out.

William Carvalho – 4/10
Lost possession quite often and left a huge gap in front of their backline on a couple of occasions due to his attacking attempts. Also failed to impress in his runs

Danilo Pereira – 4/10
Nothing much to say about Danilo Perreira’s performance in tonight’s match. Played his part as he could and did nothing special which would draw our attention

Raphael Guerreiro – 6/10
Delivered some quality performance in the left flank, coordinating well with Diogo Jota. Unfortunately, his own goal is what will be remembered by the masses.

Cristiano Ronaldo – 7.5/10
A brilliant performance by the Portuguese talisman tonight, but just not enough to muster a point for his team. Cristiano scored a goal in the 15th minute through Dio Jota’s assist and was indisputable in the first half, outclassing German defender Antonio Rudiger. In the second half, however, he had only 3 touches in Germany’s box (one of which was an assist) and failed to replicate his first half’s performance of Portugal vs Germany.

Portugal vs Germany Player ratings: Cristiano Ronald (7.5/10)

Bruno Fernandes – 5/10
The Manchester United midfielder had little involvement in the game tonight, none of which left a mark. Some of his set pieces created good chances for the Selecao and that was it.

Bernado Silva – 6/10
Probably the best player in the first half for Portugal apart from Cristiano Ronaldo. It’s a shame that he had to be subbed off at the start of the second half, presumably due to an injury, not giving us a chance to rate him rightfully.

Substitutes

Joao Moutinho – 5.5/10
Came in as a substitute for Bernado Silva in the second half and got to say, was every bit better than the Manchester United star. Unfortunately, could not create enough chances.

Renato Sanchez – 7.5/10
If Cristiano Ronaldo was Portugal’s best player in the first half, it was Renato Sanchez in the second. A tremendous lone wolf performance from the midfielder that will be remembered for a long time. His terrific strike that hit the post at the 80th minute, could’ve changed the face of the game.

Andre Silva – N.A
Came in late into the game, not giving us any basis on which we can rate him.

Germany Player Ratings

Manuel Neuer – 6/10
One of the ‘not-so-great performances from the German captain tonight. Could’ve done better in his positioning in the goals that he conceded. He made some crucial save though, earning himself a rating of 6.

Mathias Ginter – 6/10
The youngster was often sloppy at defence but his role in leading the backline was immense.

Matts Hummels – 6.5/10
Matts Hummels gave Portugal some serious troubles in set pieces due to his aerial reach and was also impenetrable in defense. Unfortunately he has lost pace now due to his age and therefore failed to keep up with Cristiano Ronaldo’s pace which ultimately resulted in Portugal’s first goal.

Antonio Rudiger – 7.5/10
Rudiger might have been outclassed by Cristiano Ronaldo’s brilliance in the first half, but the Chelsea defender made an epic comeback in the second half, pocketing the Portuguese talisman for the entirety of the 45 minutes. He simply bossed Portugal’s forward line tonight.

Joshua Kimmich – 8.5/10
Undoubtedly the most important player in the current German setup. His defensive and offensive contributions were both exceptional and the Portuguese defenders had no answer to his defense splitting crosses.

Ilkay Gundogan – 7/10
Ilkay Gundogan was given the duty to press Portugal’s defenders aggressively which he did with perfection. Gundogan looked a bit lacklustre in his forward runs tonight though.

Tony Kroos – 7.5/10
As always, Tony Kroos was the main playmaker of the german side, creating chances and distributing the ball to every corner of the field. He did his part convincingly.

Robin Gosens – 9/10
The 26 years old left wing back gave a Philip Lahm-like performance for Germany tonight. His offside goal in the 5th minute of the game had given a hint to the spectators of the storm that was about to come, and boy did it come. Gosens simply dismantled the Portuguese defence from the left flank and was rightfully named the man of the match. He scored Germany’s 4th goal. He was simply the star of the Portugal vs Germany match

Kai Havertz – 8.5/10
One of the best performances of the youngster in the German colours so far. He was rock solid in the AM position, giving a hard time to even Pepe to match up to him physically. He scored Germany’s third goal of the night.

Portugal vs Germany Player ratings: Kai Havertz (8.5/10)

Thomas Muller – 7.5/10
Might not have been as thrilling as the other two german forwards, but gave them tremendous support.

Serge Gnabry – 8/10

The Bayern Munchen forward went full ‘catch me if you can’ mode tonight. His pacy dribbles and tremendous ball control were giving the Portuguese players a hard time to follow up and provided space for the others like Gosens to go for in-behind runs.
