Dean Jones of GIVEMESPORT reports that RB Leipzig midfielders Dominik Szoboszlai and Amadou Haidara are among Newcastle United’s top transfer targets for the next summer. There have been rumours that Newcastle is interested in signing Szoboszlai. After losing out on the highly regarded defensive midfielder in the past, the Magpies are ready to renew their interest in Haidara.
The Magpies are on the cusp of qualifying for the Champions League next season, needing just one more point to do so. Since being acquired by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia in October 2021, Eddie Howe’s squad has been outstanding. They are also well ahead of schedule in terms of the long-term objective established by the new owners.
Newcastle may be able to reclaim its place at the top of European football after being banished for the better part of two decades. When Howe took over as manager 18 months ago, they were in the midst of a Premier League relegation battle. The turnaround has been nothing short of remarkable. Things are shaping up to become very interesting during the summer transfer window.

With a return to the Champions League on the horizon, Newcastle will need to make investments in their playing team. Recent connections to Leicester City’s James Maddison suggest that a new creative midfielder is high on Eddie Howe’s checklist.
Dominik Szoboszlai and Amadou Haidara, two central midfielders for RB Leipzig, are reported as ‘priority objectives’ for Newcastle United as the club prepares for a busy summer of recruiting UCL reinforcements
Dominik Szoboszlai, who has lately been linked with a transfer to St. James’ Park, is a perfect match for what Howe is said to be seeking. A more defensive-minded midfield enforcer is also said to be a priority position. Here comes the athletic Hungarian midfielder’s partner, Amadou Haidara of Leipzig.
The 25-year-old has established himself as an integral member of Red Bull Arena’s starting lineup thanks to his work as a deep-lying, all-action warrior in midfield. Last summer, Newcastle made an effort to sign the Mali international. While the player was not actively seeking a transfer, Leipzig made it plain that they had no intention of selling.
With the possibility of playing in the Champions League, Newcastle will be eager to reach an agreement as soon as possible. A tireless box-to-box midfielder, Haidara is a player to watch. He’s a solid defender who enjoys getting into the fray. However, he has the potential to be a versatile midfielder who excels in whatever position is assigned to him.
The ball-winning midfielder would complement Newcastle’s high-tempo pressing from the centre, help regain control, and move the ball forward efficiently, all of which are hallmarks of Howe’s system. The year 2025 marks the end of Haidara’s contract with Leipzig. It is unclear at this time whether Newcastle will increase their pursuit of the 25-year-old midfield dynamo.
