Cameroonian forward and former FC Barcelona player Samuel Eto’o has said that if he were in charge of FC Barcelona right now, he would have grabbed the opportunity of signing Sergio Ramos for the Catalan club. In the same interview, he also opined that he is confident that Lionel Messi will soon be signing his much anticipated contract extension with FC Barcelona.

Real Madrid announced last week through an official statement that their captain Sergio Ramos will be leaving the club at the end of the season, which was followed by a farewell ceremony the next day. The free agent is now in search of his new destination, with clubs like Manchester United, Manchester City and PSG all lined up as possible suitors.

However, Samuel Eto’o says that he would be more than happy to see a controversial move of the Spanish captain to Camp Nou, breaking El Clasico’s divide.
What Samuel Eto’o has said

Eto’o said: “Hopefully Sergio goes to PSG. If I could sign him for Barca, I would. “
“If he goes to PSG, I will be happy and I know that he will help us win the Champions League, which is proving very difficult for us.”
It is, however, just a wild fantasy of Samuel Eto’o and nothing more than that as we all know that Sergio Ramos joining FC Barcelona is next to impossible.
The defender himself opened up on this topic three months ago when he revealed why it is impossible for him to play in the Catalan colours. “There are no chances of me joining Barcelona. Not even for €60m. I have a special affection for Laporta because I like him very much. But there are things in this life that money can’t buy. It’s just like you’d never see Xavi or Gerard Pique join Real Madrid,” Sergio Ramos had said.

Messi’s contract extension

FC Barcelona is currently focused on persuading their all time highest goalscorer Lionel Messi to sign his contract renewal at the club. The Argentine becomes a free agent in exactly a fortnight and the Catalunyan club better hurry.
Samuel Eto’o, however, thinks that Messi loves the club too much to leave. He feels that it’s only a matter of time before the official confirmation of his stay arrives.
“I know that Messi loves Barcelona, that he has no problems and that it is not a question of money,” he said.
“The only thing is the project, which has to be reliable and I know that Joan [Laporta, Barca president] is working on that.
“He has to enjoy the time he has left, football owes it to him, not just Barca. He has given us everything, he has to enjoy it and win titles.
“Messi is God and when you have a God you just have to admire him.”
