Barcelona star Gerard Pique gives honest verdict on the club after Dynamo Kyiv win

La Liga giants Barcelona does not have a good run of form in La Liga with 5 points from their last 5 league games. Ronald Koeman tried to make an instant impact on being appointed as the manager of the Blaugrana. He did some business in the summer transfer window but failed to find a replacement for Luis Suarez who joined rivals Atletico Madrid.

However, Koeman was critical of the performance as Barcelona failed to defend well. The Dutch boss branded their backline just ‘ok’ because he was not pleased with the pressing. Veteran defender Gerard Pique also spoke out in the post-match conference and talked about the changes required at the Catalunya outfit to make it great again.

Barca is undergoing a series of changes this summer. Firstly, Ronald Koeman arrived to replace Quique Setien as the interim manager after the dismal 2-8 defeat in the hands of German champions Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the European competition. Recently, Josep Maria Bartomeu emptied the position of the president as he submitted his resignation after numerous accusations. Tusquets took over as the fresh elections are yet to be held. Barca is slowly going through a transition and Gerard Pique acknowledges the change at the club. He says Barca is just right and evolution is a gradual process. Pique is one of the experienced players in the squad and knows what the club needs to rise again, as per Express.

Lack of European silverware is one of the concerns for the club. Pique thinks there are many more changes needed to make them win the Champions League but it is adequate as of now. He also reminded of the expectations a club like Barcelona holds from its fans and there is never a transition year. They have to improve along with the course of time but quick in the actions. Barcelona is now 12th in La Liga, 8 points behind arch-rivals Real Madrid which is not the fans would like to witness for the rest of the season.
