Barcelona could not do business in the summer transfer window successfully due to the lack of funds. The club was heavily affected due to the coronavirus pandemic which ruined their economy with a lack of ticket sales and TV rights altered.
Barcelona en route to economic stability
Newly-appointed Ronald Koeman tried to make most of the situation as he sold some important players to raise the transfer budget but failed to replace them all. Moreover, Barca suffered due to their high salary caps and La Liga prohibited Depay’s transfer. They have wage bills of around 500 million and it was necessary to reduce them.
Tusquets predicted that there is a chance of bankruptcy by New Year if the current wage bills are covered. He proposed a wage cut to the players which will be repaid later in the future. The current President seems to repay the temporary salary reduced as the fees after their retirement as the club ambassador. Gerard Pique, Frenchie De Jong, Clement Lenglet, and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen have already agreed to the proposal. Barcelona made sure they include a clause regarding the wage cut in the contract of new signings of Pedri, Miralem Pjanic, and Sergino Dest.
Ndombele may arrive at Camp Nou next season
These wage cuts will lead Barcelona to save 190 million euros in favor of the club and bolster the transfer budget to snap up players out of contract in 2021. Primarily, Koeman aims to land Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia which have an unfinished business with the Catalunya club. However, according to Fabrizio Romano, Tanguy Ndombele is one of the targets for Barcelona as a replacement for Arturo Vidal. Barcelona does miss the robust midfielder who provided a defensive superiority in the middle of the park. The Tottenham player did not have a great start to his career at the London outfit.

Spurs manager Jose Mourinho knows how to regulate his but has much on his plate right now with Gedson Fernandes, Hojberg, and Giovanni Lo Celso administrating the midfielder. Hence, it will be interesting to see if the Premier League club really needs Ndombele. Barcelona could use the French midfielder as a long-time replacement for Sergio Busquets. Koeman is yet to give Riqui Puig a chance to shine as the youngster played only 3 minutes this season. If Puig makes a breakthrough into the first-team, Barcelona could avoid spending money on another signing.
