Barcelona News: La Liga giants Barcelona is going through a transition period under new gaffer Ronald Koeman
Barcelona recovered from an uneasy situation at the club. With newly appointed Ronald Koeman, the club looks to make a strong start to the upcoming season. The club board has decided to sell some players this summer. Barca will rebuild its team to compete well in the European competitions. (Barcelona News)
The Catalan club has made only two signings in this transfer window. Portuguese youngster Francisco Trincao joined Barcelona from SC Braga. He will have to fight for his place in the first team. Trincao lacks experience and has to learn a lot during his stay at Camp Nou.
Barca already signed Miralem Pjanic on a pre-season contract. The Juventus midfielder will bring quality into the Blaugrana squad. With Arthur Melo moving to the Italian champions, the midfield vacated. Also, veteran Ivan Rakitic left for his former club Sevilla a week ago. Inter Milan is chasing to snap up Arturo Vidal along with Paris Saint Germain. (Barcelona News)
Barcelona will need the squad depth to perform well in La Liga as well as the Champions League. Pjanic has good technique with passing skills and rotating the ball around the midfield. The Bosnian can control the tempo of his team with the possession in his feet. Barcelona did make a wise move signing the 30-year-old who will replace Rakitic in the middle of the park, as per Marca.
How will Miralem Pjanic fit in Koeman’s Barcelona?
Former Juve manager Sarri tried to play his as ‘the regista’ in his squad. However, the plan did not work out well because Pjanic lacks defensive prowess. The player can be impressive in the attacking phase creating chances and through balls. He commits to interceptions but does not press into the opponent’s half. (Barcelona News)
Ronald Koeman is looking to implement a double pivot in the middle of the park. This means Frenkie de Jong will feature alongside Pjanic in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Barca legend Sergio Busquets will receive limited time on the pitch this term. The strategy does not fit him in the formation as De Jong will play just above the center-backs.
The double-pivot will ensure Pjanic gets to play offensively creating balls from his own half. His creative ability will reduce the pressure from Messi. The six-time Balon D’or winner has done it all at Barca last season topping both assist charts as well as the top scorer. Riqui Puig will also make few appearances in the very role. This very tactic is going to enhance Ansu Fati and Ousmane Dembele’s style of play with more attacking runs. (Barcelona News)
