The manager is planning on implementing on anew model which demands youngsters in the squad. The future depends on youth with high potential and so Barcelona is making their transfers accordingly.
However, it is quite hard for them during this phase. Barcelona does not have enough funds to pull off every possible transfer. The Dutch boss awaits another defender to bring him to Camp Nou.
Eric Garcia to Barcelona: Improbable
Barcelona is currently in talks with Manchester City over former La Masia graduate Eric Garcia. Koeman wants to consolidate his defense line so that Barca can compete well in all the competitions, in La Liga as well as the Champions League. The 19-year-old Spaniard has a price tag around €20 million but a shortage of funds means the Catalan outfit can offer only €12 million for the defender. Hence, the negotiation is at a halt.
Barcelona to snap up Depay with price reduced
Koeman also needs to find a replacement for the departing veteran striker Luis Suarez. Lautaro Martinez is a long-term target for Barcelona but they cannot pursue him this season. Nevertheless, there is a cheap alternative for Martinez in the form of Lyon’s Memphis Depay. The Dutch forward has been consistent for the Ligue 1 side and can fill in the boots of Suarez.
Also, Koeman has previously worked with Depay in the Netherlands national team. It will be easier for the 26-year-old tp settle into the Blaugrana. Sport via L’equipe reports that Lyon may lower their asking price upto €25 million which is a great opportunity for the club. Barcelona should finalize the deal for Memphis Depay before the deadline nears any further.
