Lyon offers a fresh update on Memphis Depay future amid Barcelona rumours

Barcelona could not do good business in the summer transfer window owing to its economic crisis and lack of funds to spend freely. Ronald Koeman arrived at the club hoping to reconstruct the squad and bring in fresh legs.

However, he had to work quite hard making sales of significant players and veterans to balance the books such that Barca could sign a handful of players. At the end of the day, the Catalan outfit could not find a replacement for Luis Suarez who joined league rivals Atletico Madrid this summer.

Depay to Barcelona fell out on the deadline day

Lyon offers a fresh update on Memphis Depay future amid Barcelona rumours

Koeman was aiming to sign Olympique Lyon striker Memphis Depay and had his bid registered for the 26-year-old. The negotiations were going positively ahead with the Ligue 1 club and both of them reached an agreement on the deadline day as well.

Unfortunately, the transfer did not go through due to Barcelona’s violation of the salary caps regulation. The Dutch manager was not happy with the deal falling apart as he had to continue the rest of the season without a proper striker in the squad. Koeman had Griezmann featured in the attacking role which seemed uncomfortable to the World Cup winner.

The Blaugrana did not have a pretty good start to their campaign ass they sit 8th in the league after 7 matches. There remains a high chance that Barcelona may go back to sign Depay in the winter transfer window and finally complete the long-time-coming transfer valid.

Ansu Fati’s surgery may trigger Barcelona to sign Depay sooner

Nevertheless, Lyon has expressed their will to retain the forward and would like to keep him for the rest of the season. They did not rule out the move to Barcelona stating anything can happen in football. Even Depay wanted his transfer to Camp Nou sealed before the deadline day, as per Marca.

The Catalunya side has to makes the sales as soon as possible in order to go ahead and pursue their transfer targets. Ronald Koeman has already decided on the player who is going to make the transfer list but may reconsider his decision if a few find redemption in their long lost form.
