Barcelona is looking forward to doing some business in the transfer market. Newly-appointed Ronald Koeman has a lot on his plate, including finalizing his squad for the rest of the season. Some of the unwanted players have already left the club. Veteran midfielders Ivan Rakitic and Arturo Vidal joined Sevilla and Inter Milan respectively. Striker Luis Suarez left Camp Nou after 6 years at the Catalan club.
The Uruguayan International was the third-highest goal-scorer in the history of Barcelona. Koeman favored Griezmann to lead the attack instead of Suarez. Also, Nelson Semedo agreed on terms with Premier League outfit Wolverhampton Wolves. Barca benefitted from the sale of the right-back earning €40 million. This will be of great help considering the lack of economic resources.
Barcelona facing economic barriers
Barcelona needed to sell players in order to sign a new one. La Liga’s governing authority has placed a temporary ban as the Catalunya club has more than €500 million spent on wages. Moreover, Barca does not have enough funds to chase big-money transfer targets in this summer transfer window. The coronavirus pandemic has hit the club drastically in terms of economy.
- Barcelona agree to 5-year deal with Tottenham target
- Eric Garcia’s transfer to Barcelona; Fate revealed.
Therefore, making significant sales is the only option Barcelona can opt for. A couple of transfers halted due to a sudden rise in price tag. A similar situation developed as Barca chase Manchester City defender Eric Garcia. Nevertheless, the Blaugrana is focused on replacing Semedo. Sergi Roberto is an alternative already at the club but Koeman requires a direct replacement with similar traits.
Semedo replacement to arrive soon
Ajax defender Sergino Dest is under the radar. The Dutch manager wants him to fill in the full-back position at Camp Nou. As per De Telegraaf, Barcelona has lodged a €20 million bid for the youngster. If both the clubs agree to the conditions, there is an add-on of around €5 million.
However, Barcelona is not the only club in the race to sign the USA International. German Champions Bayern Munich is chasing the youngster too. Dest acquired recognition with his break-through season last year. The 19-year-old displayed outstanding performances as top European clubs monitored his progress.
Roger Arbusà who is a Cat Radio correspondent, reports that Dest is close to complete his transfer to Barcelona. Sergino is a Blaugrana fan since childhood and looks to finalise his dream move. He also realizes more playtime at Barca than at the Bavarians.
