Former Barcelona striker Luis Suarez left Camp Nou in the summer transfer window but it seems he did not like how his exit was handled by the club. His best mate and Barcelona captain Lionel Messi criticized the board for not providing the Uruguayan with a proper farewell. Suarez attended his last press-conference as a Barcelona player but left in tears. He was emotional to leave the Blaugrana with the memories attached to the club. The forward is the third most goal scorer of all time for the Catalan outfit.
Luis Suarez lashes out at Barcelona officials
The striker joined La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid being unwanted in Barcelona. He was not happy how the club treated him or the rest of the players. Even Messi wanted to leave the club during the summer window which brought about a huge ruckus and unrest as fans went crazy. President Bartomeu managed to block every possible move to restrict the 6-time-Balon D’or winner leave the club. Suarez said Messi would have stayed instantly if a new board was appointed but it did not take place. Bartomeu is under fire with a lot of allegations and wrong decisions. Suarez made it clear that if he scores against his former club he will not celebrate as he has enough respect for the Catalunya side.
Resentment towards the abrupt exit
However, he wanted to let his feeling known pointing to those who are responsible for his unexpected transfer in the summer. The ex-Liverpool attacker also revealed he doubts if it was Koeman who rejected him as the Dutchman informed after the board announced there will be a change of players at Camp Nou. The dressing room did not look good after the 2-8 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Nevertheless, Barcelona has made a strong start under the new manager Ronald Koeman. Suarez’s departure did help the club to save the high salaries which were spent on the striker ut eventually failed to replace him during the transfer break. Ousmane Dembele’s failed loan move led to the collapse of the signing of Memphis Depay from Olympique Lyon.
