Should Barcelona pursue Dani Olmo?

La Liga giant Barcelona is interested in signing their former La Masia graduates in the upcoming season. They have already expressed their demand for Eric Garcia this summer and will go for him in the winter transfer break as well. There is a crisis at Barca defense with a lack of options to choose from. There are only three center halves available with Clement Lenglet being the most regular starter, along with Gerard Pique. There remains just one back up in the form of the inexperienced Ronald Araujo.

La Masia graduates in high demand

Eric Garcia will see his contract end in the upcoming summer transfer window and may join the Blaugrana for free. Another exciting talent whom Barcelona could not retain from La Masia is Dani Olmo, as per Marca. The Spaniard spent 7 years at the youth academy before making his move to the Croatian club Dinamo Zagreb at the tender age of 16 years. He made his recent transfer count as he signed for RB Leipzig in the January of 2020. Olmo is quite versatile and plays on both the wings but prefers to play in a more central role as number 10.

Should Barcelona pursue Dani Olmo?

The youngster has already played at central attacking, central mid, central forward, and on either flank for his club and country to date. Dani has a great vision and can create chances and pick up teammates with a long ball which is a bonus to have a player with such passing skills. Moreover, the 22-year-old shows the onus for his slide whether winning or losing, he runs across the pitch to support his side. He drops deep to support the defenders and even goes up front to assist the forwards. Olmo has snapped up three assists in 7 matches in Bundesliga this season and looks forward to keeping up his stellar performance.

The main reason Barcelona is looking at Olma is due to the long-term injury to Ansu Fati who has had an excellent start to the 2020/21 campaign with 5 goals and 3 assists. He limped out of the match against Real Betis at half-time only to suffer a knee injury that has been operated on but will take about 4-5 months to heal completely. This is a massive setback for Barcelona who is already in a rut with their 8th placed league table position. Olmo may fill in the spot and also provide squad depth for Ronald Koeman in the upcoming seasons.
